Installing Xerox printers on a PC

These instructions will show you how to install the Xerox WorkCentre 4150 printers in EIT 3033D. These instructions are for Windows XP, the instructions would be similar on Windows Vista.

The drivers need to be downloaded before we start the install process. Click on your operating system below to go to the Xerox site to download the driver. You'll be asked to accept a license agreement and then you can save the zip file to your disk. When it's been downloaded you can unzip the file to the directory of your choice.

Click on start, then Printers and Faxes to bring up the Printers and Faxes window. Click on Add a printer to begin the printer installation process. The Add Printer Wizard screen will appear as below, click Next.

Select the local printer, as shown below, and click Next.

Select the 'Create a new port' option and choose 'Standard TCP/IP Port' from the drop down menu as shown below. Click Next.

The 'Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard' will start as shown below. Click Next.

You'll get the 'Add Port' window shown below. In the 'Printer Name or IP Address' field, type the name of the printer, for example, ecexerox1.uwaterloo.ca. The 'Port Name' field will complete automatically, there's no need to enter anything yourself. Click Next.

The 'Completing the Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard' window shown below will appear which will confirm your settings. Click 'Finish'.

Now you'll get the 'Install Printer Software' window below.

Click on 'Have Disk' and then use the 'Browse' button to go to the directory that you created by unzipping the driver file that you downloaded at the beginning of these instructions. It'll show you a window with a file name ending in a a '.INF' extension, click 'Open' on this window. You'll get a verification screen that says 'Insert the manufacturer's installation disk, and then make sure that the correct drive is selected below'. Just click OK on this window and you'll get the window below. Click Next.

Select a name for your printer as shown below. You can use ECEXEROX1 or ECEXEROX2 depending on which IP address you used above or you can give it a name you choose if you prefer. you can also choose whether it will be your default printer or not. Click Next.

You'll get a window asking about Printer Sharing. Elect not to share the printer as shown below. Click Next.

You'll get a window asking about printing a test page. Elect not to print one as shown below. It wouldn't work properly at this stage. Click Next.

Finally you'll get the 'Completing the Add Printer Wizard' window shown below. Click 'Finish'. The system will then install the driver.

If you get a warning like the one below that the driver has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify its compatibility with Windows, don't worry, just click 'Continue Anyway'.

There is one final step and that is to configure the printer driver with your printing code to authorize printing. Click on start, then Printers and Faxes to bring up the Printers and Faxes window. You should see an entry for the printer you've just created. Right click on the printer name and then select Properties. You will get the window below after you have selected the 'Configuration' tab. Click on the 'Accounting' button.

You'll now have the Accounting window. Select 'Xerox Standard Accounting or Auditron' from the drop-down menu. Then Select the 'Use Default Accounting Codes' section. Fill in your printer access code in the 'Default User ID:' field, as shown below. Click OK to close the window and then click OK in the original Properties window. The printer is now set up.
