New Faces: Irene Goldthorpe

Professor Goldthorpe joined the ECE department in January 2011 as an Assistant Professor. She was most recently a postdoctoral scientist at Eastman Kodak in Rochester, NY where she developed materials for LEDs and phosphors. Irene received her graduate degrees from Stanford University. Her thesis studied the synthesis and material properties of semiconductor nanowires. At the University of Waterloo, Prof. Goldthorpe will be establishing a research program in nanoelectronic materials and devices, and will be teaching classes in UW's Nanotechnology Engineering program. Irene grew up in the Toronto area so is happy to be returning close to home and looks forward to getting to know the students, staff, and faculty in the department.
