The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering offers undergraduate degrees in the core programs of Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering and jointly runs three unique and interdisciplinary undergraduate programs in Software Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, and Nanotechnology Engineering. Combined, we have over 2400 students, all of whom are enrolled in our Co-operative Education Program which is the largest in the world. After four years of undergraduate studies, our students participate in the 4th-year design project, a significant year-long effort to apply their accumulated knowledge to build new and unique solutions to actual engineering problems.
The University of Waterloo was founded in 1957 and one of the five founding programs was an Honours Co-op Degree in Electrical Engineering. The Computer Engineering program was introduced in 1985.
