Laboratories and Tutorials

Tutorials are scheduled for nearly all ECE departmental courses. These provide an opportunity for the student to discuss assignments, course material, etc. with the teaching assistant or instructor. Make good use of these opportunities. This page includes the following information:

Each term several courses will have associated laboratories. These may involve hardware experiments, computer exercises, projects, or combinations of these activities. Details will be provided by the instructor at the start of the term. The laboratory component must be completed to obtain a grade in the course; they are not optional. The labs will be scheduled after the course begins. You can schedule your labs around your elective.

Each laboratory is staffed by a lab instructor and usually one or more graduate or undergraduate teaching assistants (TA's). The undergraduate TA's are third or fourth year co-op students with a good understanding of the course material.

To complete the lab exercises, budget your time carefully. Students often leave too many of the labs until late in the term, making it very difficult to complete them all. Sometimes too much time is spent on the lab in one course, either because it is enjoyable or too difficult, to the detriment of other courses. If you have trouble budgeting your time, talk to Engineering Counselling who would be happy to offer you suggestions.

The department has an Electronics Store (third floor of E2) from which students may obtain materials for laboratories and projects.

Information about computer and other related resources may be found on the Engineering Computing page.

Disk Quotas

The Quota Administrator (Bernie Roehl) deals with all issues associated with disk quotas. The current quotas for Undergraduate Students are:

YearMemoryComments
1st 50 MiB
2nd100 MiB
3rd150 MiB
4th200 MiB valid for four months after graduation
Graduates0 MiBstarts four months after graduation

Requests for a higher disk quota will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Non-academic media (videos, music, etc.) will not be accommodated.
