To complement their engineering studies, all Electrical and Computer Engineering students are required to clear a number of milestones. A milestone is not a course, however, it is an objective which must be cleared before a specified Academic Term. If a student does not clear the milestone by a predetermined point, the student will not be allowed to proceed into the next Academic Term.

Five of these milestones are Co-op Work Term, and another four are the four required work-term reports. These are documented elsewhere.

The remaining three milestones are:

• English Language Proficiency Examination (ELPE)
• Technical Presentation Milestone (TPM)
• Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)

These three milestones are not linked to any courses and therefore when a student achieves one of these milestones, he or she is said to have cleared the milestone. If you make an attempt to clear one of these three milestones and fail to do so, the milestones are simply not yet marked as being cleared.
