Are You Looking for Research Opportunities in Biomedical Ultrasound?

If so, have a look at the following questions:
  • Are you interested in working on the fundamentals, system design, or application aspect of biomedical ultrasound?
  • Do you love to take on challenging research problems and strive for excellence intellectually?
  • Would you like to work in a highly dynamic, multi-cultural type of research environment?
If you said "yes" to all the above questions, then we might be a great home for you!

Why join us? Our group is comprised of passionate individuals who are all interested in biomedical ultrasound research. Newcomers will enjoy forming strong bonds with our senior labmates. We also stress a balanced development of our skillset. While learning new technical knowledge is undoubtedly crucial, we also recognize the importance of honing our transferrable skills including critical thinking, communication, and organization.

PhD Vacancies (2017-2018 Academic Year)

Our group will be happy to work with excellent students (academically and socially) who are interested in graduate-level research at the frontiers of biomedical ultrasound. For the 2017-2018 academic year, we will pledge support to applicants with these attributes: Studentship stipend: All full-time graduate students who are invited to join our group will receive financial stipend in accordance with the policy of the University of Waterloo Faculty of Engineering. Preference will be given to applicants whom we think can successfully apply for major scholarships, such as Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship and Ontario Graduate Scholarship. If you already hold an external major scholarship, our group will definitely consider your application favorably.

Important note: All potential applicants must procedurally apply through the Waterloo ECE Graduate Studies Program and compete for admission based on requirements set forth by the university. Admission decisions will be made by the university, with recommendation from our group.

Application procedure: If you are interested in working with us, please submit your formal application for PhD studies to the Waterloo ECE Graduate Studies Program, and choose "Biomedical Engineering" as your area of specialization and "Alfred Yu" as your potential supervisor. Our lab will contact shortlisted applicants for an interview.

After you have submitted your application, feel free to email your CV to Alfred to prompt him about your application. To be fair to us, we reserve the right to ignore poorly worded, spam-like emails (e.g. ones that begin with "To Whom It May Concern" or "Hey Man!").
