Recall that any motion or noise will attract the attention of the audience. Consequently, any distracting mannerisms must be avoided. Some examples of mannerisms which have been viewed to be distracting are:

• Playing with a pen or laser pointer,
• Shuffling notes,
• Playing with change or keys in one's pocket,
• Fiddling, unclasping and clasping jewelry or watches, and
• Playing with one's zipper (yes, this has been observed).

The presenter should also try to avoid unconscious movements such as fidgeting, eye twitches, and lip or tongue biting.
