NE 112 Linear algebra for nanotechnology engineers

Assignments

Weekly assignments are submitted through Crowdmark.com. You will answer the questions and upload an image. Instructions for such submissions are on the Crowdmark website.

The due dates for the assignments are on Sundays at 10 p.m.

If you have questions, you can ask the instructor or you can cut and paste the question into ChatGPT and ask for a hint. Do not ask ChatGPT for a correct answer, as that will not help you. Instead, if you are using any sort of generative articficial intelligence, be sure to use it as a tool to help you learn, and not a tool to help you get the answer. If you ask ChatGPT to explain the question without giving the answer, or to give you a hint, it will comply and not give you the answer. Unfortunately, I've tried even the more difficult questions, and it seems that ChatGPT gives the correct answer each time, and each time I give ChatGPT the same question, it gives a slightly different answer. Thus, it is essentially impossible for me to even ``catch'' a cheater. However, on the mid-term and final examinations, you will not have ChatGPT to help you, so please learn to use ChatGPT as an educational tool and not a source of solutions.

What you may consider doing is checking your answer: "My answer to this question is 31: is this correct? <cut-and-paste question>.

You want to be an engineer, and to become an engineer, you must be able to solve real-world problems, and you must solve novel real-world problems. If you use ChatGPT to solve the simple problems you are presented with in your undergraduate studies, you will not develop the tool kit you need to solve novel problems for which there is no solution, and I have been assured by many students working in niche fields that tools like ChatGPT simply fail when they try to use it with their actual problems.
