Ran Zhang received his B.E. degree on Electronic Information Science and Technology from the Department of Electronic Engineering, Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, in 2010. He received his Ph.D. degree in 2016from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Waterloo, Waterloo, ON, Canada, under the supervision of Professor Xuemin (Sherman) Shen and Professor Liang-liang Xie . He is now working as a system engineer in Ottawa Research Center, Huawei Technologies, Kanata, ON, Canada.
His Ph.D. research interests include radio resource management in 4G/5G mobile communication networks (with emphasis on heterogeneous networks (HetNets), carrier aggregation (CA) in LTE-A standard, and LTE-Unlicensed technology), wireless green networks, and electrical vehicle charging control in smart grids. His current research area focuses on coding algorithm design of polar coding and its standardization in 5G new radio (NR) wireless systems.
