Course Book Usage for Students

I. Login your Course Book account

bulletConnect to https://ecewo.uwaterloo.ca  and click "Course Book Online"

 
bulletLogin with your UWID. Your initial password will be announced in lecture by the professor.
bulletChange your password immediately after you login. Your password expires the first time you login and you are required to change it before you can do any transactions through Course Book. You will find the password change link at the bottom of the page after you login. After you finish typing and confirming the new password, click "Validate" button to make the change. If the password is changed successfully, you will see "Password changed!" on the top left corner of the screen.

II. File Submission

On the top left corner of the screen, there are two options. One is "Your Courses" and the other is "Groups".
"Your Courses" is for individual file submission and "Groups" is for group file submission.

bulletIndividual Submission
1. Click "Individual" hyperlink at the top left corner of the screen
2. You are led to your individual course screen. Pick up the course for which you want to submit your assignment from the drop-down list.

3. Click "Upload/Download Files" to open the menu

4. Click "Brows..." button to search the file you want to upload
5. Click "Upload Files" button to finish the upload and you will see the new file show up in the Upload/Download Files list. "File uploaded!" appears on the top right corner if the upload is successful.

 

bulletGroup Submission
1. Click "Groups" hyperlink at the top left corner of the screen
2. You are led to your course group screen. Pick up the course for which you want to submit your assignment from the drop-down list.

3. You are now in your course group management screen which shows the existing groups. You will also see "Create Group" button at the bottom of the screen if you haven't joined any group yet. You can contact the "Representative" of an existing group to join his/her group or you can create your own group and become the "Representative" of the group by clicking "Create Group" button. As you can see you become a "Representative" of a group if you are the person to create the group. Only the "Representative" of a group has the permission to add new members into his/her group.

4. After you create or join a group, your go to your course group management screen by step 1~3 and then click your group name hyperlink (i.e. TEST101-G003 in the image below) . Then you are led to the group file submission page where you open the menu by clicking "Upload/Download Files".


5. Click "Brows..." button to search the file you want to upload
6. Click "Upload Files" button to finish the upload

III. Name issues

You will notice that Course Book change the name of the file you upload and this is an expected behavior. Here are the rules that the Course Book uses to change the uploaded file names.

bulletIndividual Submission
Uploaded file name will be pre-pended by "<submitter's uwid>_". For example, a user with login id "jsmith" wants to upload a file named "prog1.c". The uploaded file will be named as "jsmith_prog1.c" and he will see the file with this new name in his upload/download files list.
bulletGroup Submission
Uploaded file name will be pre-pended by "<Group Name>-<submitter's uwid>_" . For example, a user with login id "jsmith" in group named "TEST101-G003" wants to upload a file named "G003sdd.doc" for his group. The uploaded file will be named as "TEST101-G003-jsmith_G003sdd.doc" and he will see the file with this new name in his upload/download files list.
