All e-mail should have the word 'reference' in the subject. All requests
for references should be made through e-mail so that I have a common
record. Please limit the number of references to something reasonable.

Are there any comments on your evaluations worth noting?
If you are looking for a recommendation for a scholarship (NSERC or OGS)
of for graduate school I require a paragraph or two on the following:
- Background
- How long have I known you? What courses did you take with me?
- Academic Ability
- Discuss your academic record (do not include a transcript). Point
out any particular strengths. If you have a regular strength in one
area, be clear to make that obvious, e.g., software or hardware, power
or controls. If you are weak in one area explain why. How does your
academic reflect your actual abilities? Is there anything in
your transcript about which you are particularly proud?
- Self-taught
- What have you researched or taught yourself on your own time
outside of your academic studies and Co-op Work Placements. Do you
read any journals on a regular basis?
- Originality
- Demonstrate originality, most like at your Co-op Work Placements,
your 4th-year Design Projects, Course Projects (e.g., ECE 354), and
work with engineering clubs (Midnight Sun).
- Research Skill
- Provide any examples of research-related activities during your
undergraduate career. This may include, but is not limited to,
copies of papers (published and unpublished), technical reports,
or examples from Co-op Work Placements.
- Research Potential
- Given the information in your last paragraph, justify your potential
for research.
- Engineering Judgment and Analysis
- Provide examples, most likely from
your Co-op Work Placements and perhaps your 4th-year Design Project
which demonstrate engineering judgment and analysis.
- Leadership
- Provide examples of leadership, e.g., at your
Co-op Work Placements or executive positions held in various organizations
or clubs.
- Oral Communication
- Provide any examples of public speaking, for example, attending
Toastmasters.
- Written Communication
- Provide a copy of your most recent work-term report (electronically)
or some other example of your writing skills. If you have authored
or co-authored any published or unpublished papers, please provide
those if possible.
- Industry/Entrepreneurship
- Give examples of industriousness or entrepreneurship throughout
your undergraduate studies.
- Anything else?
- Is there anything else that would help me provide a clearer picture as to why you
should be eligible for a scholarship?
Please do not submit a transcript.
