Course Summary

The first two weeks of the course is a continuation of the study of professional practice. In these two weeks, we will look at the history of professionalism and engineering, what is engineering, and and the consequences of engineering failures with a focus on electrical and computer engineering. We will look at the definition of self-regulation and how engineering is regulated in Ontario through the licencing of qualified individuals and the certifying of those offering engineering services to the public. We will continue with the definition of self-discipline, the definition of professional misconduct, and how Professional Engineers Ontario accepts and deals with complaints and disciplines members found to be engaging in misconduct. In addition, we will look at the enforcement of the Professional Engineers Act.
