Network Games

Part of Assignment 2.

In this part of the assignment you need to play the BlueTeam game created by a prior Masters student of Dr Vaniea’s. The game content is considered examinable on the final. For those with less familiarity with networking and firewalls, we also provide two games that may help you better understand the topics.

  • CS4G Netism - teaches the basics of networking. Highly recommended for anyone that has not taken a Networking course.
  • Permission Impossible - teaches the basics of IP Tables firewall rule construction. Game has extensive explaination and slowly steps through how one creates IP Tables firewall rules. If you are struggling with the BlueTeam game below, try this game first.

Required

The game below (levels 1-7) is considered examinable content for the final exam.

  • BlueTeam - Firewall game where the player sets up one or more firewall for various situations and network setups.
    • Known bug/feature: Levels 4 and 7 where the outer firewall is expected to take a least-permissive strategy, but that is not clearly stated in the game.
    • Level 8 has some incorrectly stated IP addresses which may cause confusion.

Assignment 3

Due: August 5th

Submit

The whole assignment can be submitted on Crowdmark.

Some questions on the assignment are marked with a quiz icon. Starting Monday July 20th, there will be a Learn-based quiz you can use to check your understanding on these questions.

Groups

This assignment may be completed either individually or in groups.

SEED Lab VMs work on most computer setups, but there are a few operating system setups where it can be very annoying to get the VM working. Addressing these issues can be easier in a group.

Deadline

Assignments submitted to Crowdmark by the deadline will be graded and feedback given. The Learn quiz will stay up past the deadline and can be taken at any time.
