This checklist is provided to make sure you haven't missed any
important details. For further clarification, see the individual
pages.
General
Organization
- [ ] I have prepared my presentation and saved
it on a functioning USB flash drive
- [ ] If my presentation is not in .ppt, .pptx,
or .pdf format, I will be bringing my own computer
which has a VGA analogue display connector (required)
- [ ] My talk is between 12 and 15 minutes (required)
- [ ] I have given sufficient background to familiarize the audience with the subject
- [ ] I have explained all non-obvious abbreviations and acronyms
- [ ] My talk is not a high-level overview of some technology
Slides
- [ ] The slides are in either .ppt, .pptx or .pdf format (recommended)
- [ ] I have a title slide (required)
- [ ] I have an outline slide (required)
- [ ] I have a summary and conclusions slide (required)
- [ ] I have approximately one slide per minute
- [ ] The slides are numbered
- [ ] I have no slides with more than 60 words on it
- [ ] I do not have a slide which covers two or more different topics
- [ ] I have at least one table (recommended)
- [ ] I have at least one graphic (recommended), especially where it is useful
- [ ] My font size is reasonable (24-32 pt for main text)
- [ ] The text on my slides is a brief summary of what I am saying (and does not contain full sentences)
Presentation
- [ ] I am not talking in a monotone voice
- [ ] I am not spending a significant amount of time reading either the slides on the computer or my notes
- [ ] I am looking the audience members in the eye
- [ ] I am not saying um or ah (or some other mumbling noise which could be substituted by silence)
- [ ] I do not put my hands into my pockets
- [ ] I am not standing like a cardboard cut-out
- [ ] I am not playing with my watch, my zipper, etc.
Questions
