A time-series chart has time plotted along the abscissa and a second measurable value plotted as the ordinate.
Try to avoid using a legend in a time-series chart: the audience has only a few seconds to interpret the data and looking back-and-forth between the legend and the chart will distract the audience from the talk.
Use appropriate colours.
Plot points or lines but not both: combining both will essentially produce additional chartjunk.
If you are displaying cumulative data, use lines.
The time axis should be linear.
Do not use a grid
Only connect the dots if it will help the audience to distinguish the plots. Lines will only be useful if there are very few points being plotted and the number of points in which case, you should ask yourself if the data is that relevant.
A useful replacement may be to show a trend through a best-fitting curve be it exponential or polynomial growth.
