Opening:

We currently have openings for the joint Waterloo-Suzhou (FUNSOM) 2+2 PhD program. In brief, you will spend the first two years at Waterloo, with a scholarship the same as regular PhD student; and the second two years at Suzhou University (under Professor 孙宝全's supervision). After four years you will receive PhD degree from University of Waterloo (no degree from Suzhou University). You should be able to speak some Chinese to make your life easier in China. The research project is in the area of nanostructured hybrid (organic + inorganic) solar cell.

In addition, if you are interested in our research program, and you have your own funding, please contact me. Past experience in micro-nanofabrication and thin film technology, or a solid background in physics or electrical engineering (semiconductor, photonics...), is highly desirable.

If you apply for PhD program, please note you must write and pass the qualification exam during the first year. Therefore, your application will be considered only if I am convinced that you have a solid background in math and physics.

For Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada, you may consider applying for NSERC (funds both graduate students and postdocs) or OGS funding. With NSERC or OGS, your salary will be $30000 per year ($20000 from NSERC/OGS).

For Chinese citizen, you may consider applying for CSC (China Scholarship Council) support, which funds both PhD students (including short term 1-2 year visit) and postdoc.

For undergraduate student, you may consider applying for NSERC USRA. Your salary will be $6100-7000 per term. The university requires a minimum cumulative average of 80%. Co-op students in my group publish regularly first-author journal papers or go to international conferences.
